Up This Week: British Invasion, Buti Yoga, and More!

Hey all! Welcome back !

Things got a little hectic- we all know how life goes- and I put this on the back burner for awhile, but now its definitely time to get back to bringing you tons of local event options to help add some fun to your weeks!

Along with the weekly and weekend event posts, I’ll also be sharing some local business spotlights from some of my favorite spots around the city- restaurants, coffee shops, breweries (personal fav), fitness/wellness centers, etc. Matt and I love supporting local businesses, and Pittsburgh has so many amazing options, so there will be no shortage of places to highlight.

As much as I love the ‘Burgh, I also love to travel and plan trips. In that regard, I want to share with you some trips we’ve taken and some tips on how I find some amazing places to stay for great prices. So keep an eye out for those posts, too.

Lastly, we adopted our dog baby Luther last year and have been scouting out some great pet friendly places around the city. I know there are tons of pet lovers in Pittsburgh, so I also want to share some the establishments we’ve found !

Enough with all of that- lets get down to what you’re really here for: events! There is usually no shortage of things to do at any given time in our city, and this week is no different. So if you don’t have a ton of picnics to attend, or you are looking for something to keep your 4th of July fun rolling, I’ve got plenty of options for ya!

Just a reminder, clicking on the title of each event will lead you to the event listing with even more information than I have provided here, and clicking on the link for “where” will bring up a map of the location. Definitely click to those pages to find out more or buy tickets when necessary. Enjoy!

Monday July 3

Beatlemania Magic

  • Where: Rivers Casino- North Shore
  • When: 7pm-10pm
  • Cost: FREE
  • Enjoy an evening outside listening to some Beatles cover tunes! Hopefully you have Tuesday off, so this is a great way to kick it off. Blankets and umbrellas are allowed at the amphitheater, but coolers and outside food/beverages are not. Grab a drink and relax. After the music is over, head inside and try your luck to make a night of it. My personal favorite is the Kitty Glitter slot machine. Give it a go.

Tuesday July 4

Red, White, and Buti

  • Where: Sterling Yoga- Mount Lebanon area
  • When: 9am-10:15am
  • Cost: $10 cash or PayPal- Sterling Yoga passes are also valid for the event
  • So, what the heck is Buti Yoga? Think part yoga and part tribal dance class combined with some amazing music to lead your practice. It’s a great way to shake it loose while reconnecting with yourself. All levels are welcome to come to the event. Start your 4th off with some self care before all the fun of the day-I’m planning on being there, too! Check out this video that gives more explanation of this class style!

Wednesday July 5

Disney Trivia Night

  • Where: The Claddagh- SouthSide Works area
  • When: 7pm-9pm
  • Cost: Free
  • It is really the combination of all your childhood dreams. Disney trivia and drinks. A more perfect couple doesn’t exist. This is the last one that will be happening (for now), so you better get down and show off that useless Disney knowledge that’s taking up valuable brain space.

Thursday July 6

Coraline Pajama Party

  • Where: Row House Cinema- Lawrenceville
  • When: 9:30pm-11:20pm
  • Cost: $7/person
  • You were already going to be on the couch in your pajamas anyway (Stop. Don’t lie.) Instead, head down to Row House and catch a movie with a whole group in your pajamas. Grab a beer from and some snacks from the concession stand (everyone in PJs gets $1 off their food), and watch Coraline discover her creepy alternate universe.

That’s all for now! I’ll be back on Wednesday night to bring you some ideas for the weekend.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!

Monday Already?

Hi All! Hope you had a good weekend!

The weekends always seem to go way too fast and the weeks way too slow. Breaking out of the daily routine during the week by heading to an event or trying a new dinner spot always helps for me- give it a try this week with all there is to pick from!

I must have been pretty hungry and/or really wanting a good drink when I picked these events- they all have to do with booze and food (arguably 2 of my favorite things)!

Monday March 7

Washington County Restaurant Week

  • Where: Various restaurants throughout Washington County
  • When: March 7-13
  • Cost: Varies
  • Head out to Washington County to find a new dining spot. The week will feature special menu options, as well as special pricing on features. Check out the list of participating restaurants by following the link to the site.

Tuesday March 8

Donations and Libations: Nine Mile Run Watershed Association

  • Where: Butterjoint-Oakland
  • When: 4:30pm-12:00am
  • Cost: No Cover
  • The next installment of the Butterjoint’s fundraiser series will benefit the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association. If you don’t know much about the association, or watersheds, I encourage you to follow the link and read through their site to learn more about the importance of protecting our local watersheds (my inner environmental science self LOVES this stuff). All proceeds from food and drink will go directly to the association to help with restoration efforts and outreach events. Don’t forget cash for tips- servers will also be donating ALL CASH tips to association!

Wednesday March 9

Perfect Pairs: Whiskey and Cheese

  • Where: Wigle Whiskey Distillery- Strip District
  • When: 5:00pm-8:00pm
  • Cost: Free Entry- activities vary
  • In the second week of Wigle Whiskey’s demo series, you will work on crafting the perfect whiskey and cheese pairings. Cheese and whiskey used in the demo will be available to purchase for recreations at home!

Claddagh’s Whiskey Dinner

  • Where: The Claddagh- South Side Works
  • When: 6:00pm-9:00pm
  • Cost: Varies
  • Enjoy a 5 course Irish style dinner with each course paired with an Irish whiskey. If that is not the perfect dinner, I’m not sure what is.

Thursday March 10

21+ After Hours Playtime

  • Where: Heinz History Center- Strip District
  • When: 5:30pm-8:00pm
  • Cost: $10
  • If you haven’t been able to check out the new ‘Toys of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s’ exhibit, now is your chance! Enjoy this adults only event by revisiting favorite childhood toys complete with a retro candy bar. Music from the eras feature in the exhibit will also be playing, and a cash bar will be available! A great way to celebrate the ALMOST end to the week.

As I mentioned last week, we went to see Jason Isbell at the Benedum for Matt’s birthday. Initially, when I bought the tickets, I wasn’t super excited, but I knew Matt would enjoy it. The closer it came to the show, though, the more into it I became. I had been spending a lot of time listening to everything Spotify had on Jason Isbell and his other projects. So, when it came time for the show, I think I ended up knowing more of the songs he played than I have for other people I consider my favorites.

The show itself was amazing, and having it at the Benedum made it even better. Listening to beautiful music and a very beautiful venue makes it all 10x better. If you haven’t had a chance to hear Jason Isbell, I highly recommend looking him up. If you’re interested, this is my favorite song by him, 24 Frames–take a listen.

So, what started as just a gift for Matt ended up as something we both enjoyed together. Major win!

Enjoy yourselves this week! I’ll see you back here on Wednesday to get ready for the weekend!
